- My Axe to Grind words & music: Bob Husted
Based on the Allman Brothers tune "One Way Out", this EPIC was one of
Bob's first original songs. At times it seems to have a mind of its own.
Right out of the gate the tempo speeds up and then it's every man for himself!
- Steamroller
Whut in thee hell?! This was my attempt at getting back to my blues roots. OY!
Obviously I didn't have the voice or the tude to come within ten miles of
this tune. Although the back vocals by Bob and I are hilarious, I don't know
what those foot-stomps were all about! Either way, blue eyed soul may never
fully recover from this one.
- Gloria-2
I came across this submix of the vocals from Gloria and I thought that it was
interesting and funny enuf to be included here.
- Bass Tune
- Do As I Say
- Trower Tune
These three tunes are really basic tracks that never became finished songs.
Bob had written the lyrics to Do As I Say but the tune never made it past the
submix stage. The Trower Soundin' Tune, as we called it, featured an
experimental backwards crash cymbal that seemed to work pretty well.
All were recorded during the "Dokorder Years".
- Drumzz
We had the equipment setup over Bob's house one evening and, after
setting the levels on the drums, I thought I'd have a go at a bit of a drum solo.
Here tis.
- I'm the Man-2
A while back I decided to go through all of the tapes in THEE BOXX and
make a more formal log of their contents. When I came to the submix for
I'm the Man only the back vocals were up on the board. I sat and listened
and decided that these were, indeed, lost tidbits.
- Goodnight Sweetheart
This attempt, at Bob's house, was destined for disaster from the git-go.
- Ragtime Cowboy
The long version. We recorded this one evening in Bob's spare bedroom.
We had the drums, recording equipment & everythang in there. We sat on
the floor and after an eternity of laffs, clams and false starts, we finally got one.
- Immigrant Song
MANDRAKE
Bob- guitar & vocals
Terry Walker- guitar & vocals
Joe Janicka- bass & vocals
Phil ?- drums & vocals
This jam was recorded during one of our "straight to 2-track" sessions in Bob's
basement. Between takes of this Led Zepplin song, Joe attempts to fine tune
his Robert Plant shriek. Needless to say, hilarity ensues.
- Saddam
Bob- producer
Terry- vocal, drums
Joe Gillis- keyboards and vocal (left, right, left)
I've never been clear on the facts of this one. One evening Joe Gillis & I were at
the Dearborn studio with Bob doing some overdubs. It was just after the deployment
of our troops in Iraq in the early 90's. Someone wanted Bob to produce this tune
as some kind of fund raiser for the troops. Joe & I decided to take a stab at it and,
with Bob at the board, we all came up with this mess.
